Our 2nd new single "Run On", taken from our upcoming 12th album "OATH", is available now. The accompanying music video for this was created by Dalian-based visual artist, Jiang Kun, utilising close to 36,000 meticulously painted frames of his own, combining Eastern ink and Western oil painting techniques.
The full album is out on June 14, 2024 in celebration of our 25th anniversary. The special anniversary orchestral world tours will also commence from October 2024 in the EU.

It's a pleasure to announce today that we'll be releasing our 12th album "OATH", coinciding with our 25th anniversary this year, on June 14 via Temporary Residence Ltd., Pelagic Records and New Noise.
The theme, this time is "time and life". We wanted to express the "limited time in life" and the "meaning of life". Our time goes by day by day. What is my goal? What is my purpose? What is the reason I live every day? What can we do? What should we do? We wanted to learn what we were feeling about time and life, what we have lost and found, and the questions and the answers we discovered during both our good and difficult times. We live with a vow that hasn’t changed since we were children.
The teaser of the album is available now alongside pre-orders on LP, CD and Digital. The first single is scheduled to be released next week on April 17.

The story takes place around a young woman who awakens from a strange omen. The visions of the end of time and desolation; a figure wanders around until it lies dead. This anomalous sensation guides the young girl through a city to a place where she will find peace she longed for. MONO's music accompanies this mourner's pilgrimage through dreams and time.

From this Christmas, we're pleased to announce that we'll be releasing a mini album series called "Heaven" every year.
With the subject "Heaven", what we want to express is the light without anxiety and sadness in life. We'd like you to listen to the album with or while thinking about your partner, family, friends or someone important.

In order to help the current difficult situation happening in Ukraine, we'll be releasing our new song "Pray for Peace" via Pelagic Records' exclusive compilation 2xMC.

Apr 18, 2022 "My Story, The Buraku Story" (An Original Soundtrack)
We're pleased to announce that this coming May, we'll be releasing our first full-length soundtrack album, originally written for the feature-length documentary film "My Story, The Buraku Story".
The documentary explores discrimination against a group of people – commonly called "the burakumin" – who were classed into lowly groups and segregated from the rest of Japanese society for centuries. When director Yusaku Mitsuwaka reached out to us to create the exemplary score for such a culturally sensitive and significant subject, we were inspired and had to take onboard.
The album is scheduled to be released on May 27, 2022, via Temporary Residence Ltd. on CD and Digital, with a delayed LP release on November 11. Pre-order alongside the 1st single "Kioku" is available now.

We regret to inform you today that due to the ongoing current situation, we'll now be postponing our forthcoming European tour once again. The new tour will take place from mid-August to mid-September, with a new additional Netherlands show.
For the support, A.A. Williams will still be joining us in Europe. For the UK, there will be new support, which will be announced soon, and the London show will feature special guests from Svalbard.

New European Tour now confirmed. As we prepare for the new album, we're excited to be able to return and give you live music again after then, almost a year-long of an unfortunate global health crisis. Through the real loud live experience, we hope to re-connect, share hope and rejoice again with you all.

The US side will consist of 3 one-night events in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles with an orchestra. The orchestras that accompany MONO are like no other; The Wordless Music Orchestra who has performed together 10 years ago for "Holy Ground", and Candlelight Chamber Orchestra which includes Melissa Bach and Jeff Yang who have both previously recorded together on studio albums. Hello our friends,
We, MONO, are currently preparing many things for our 20 year anniversary which will be held next year. Last July, we visited an engineer and producer Steve Albini once again and recorded our new album, scheduled to be released next year, with our new drummer Dahm. We will release a new single "After You Comes The Flood" this month from the new album, and start our European Tour next month to accompany the release.
Last year, we were really helped by many of our colleagues and friends, while many issues continued to occur such as the troubles with our Japanese management company and a leave of our member. We received many kind emails from our friends and partners throughout the world, and our partners told us to keep moving forward and suggested us with many ideas and schedules for our 20 year anniversary in 2019. One day, our longtime friend Jeremy from our American label Temporary Residence Ltd. got in touch with us and introduced us to Dahm, our new drummer. He is from America (NYC resident), and we met him for the first time last February in Japan on a still cold day with snows falling. We played 2 of our new songs, which we sent to him earlier, at the studio in Tokyo.
The first time playing together with Dahm was like all of us getting pulled towards something, completely absorbed in this aggressive yet beautiful world that we were playing. When we finished playing the songs, all of us were covered in smiles. We all remember it was a very strong feeling, not like finding the missing piece, but rather, a new sound of MONO appeared out of nowhere in front of us. After the rehearsal, we stepped outside and a bright red moon was floating in the night sky. Yes, the day happened to be indeed that special day that Blue Blood Moon appears once in a decade. We all strongly felt it was a miracle-like day.
As the beginning of our new chapter, we named this tour "Blue Blood Moon European Tour 2018". We all truly feel proud of all our fans and supporters from the bottom of our hearts. Hope to see you all on the tour!

Modern artist Nicolas Buffe has recently completed a new stage screen for La Seine Musicale in France. The piece is a motif of Orpheus from Greek mythology, and Taka Goto is used as a model. It's an extremely large and beautiful piece, so do take a look if you get a chance.

Babymetal and Piko Tarou are not the only ones who are successful overseas. There is a Japanese band who writes their original songs and steadily continue to tour the world.
MONO is the representation of that, originally formed in 1999 by members consisting of Takaakira 'Taka' Goto. The band is known for their instrumental music consisting of loud guitars. Last Autumn, the band released their new album "Requiem For Hell", which was produced by one of America’s highly regarded producers Steve Albini, who also has previously produced for such artists as Nirvana.
The band structure is basic; consisting of two guitars, drums and bass. Depending on the songs, keyboards are incorporated. The new album’s title song was remarkable, and their music was dramatic like Classical music, filled with melancholic melodies. Drums and bass led strong rhythms, and the music kept expanding endlessly.
The song structure of calm to loud, then back to calm was effective. It was easy to get absorbed into their world, even if you were not familiar with the songs. Their flow of sound was intoxicating, like going back and forth between the world of life and death, and light and darkness.
MONO may be far from top chart’s sweet pop music, but they’re definitely worth giving a listen.

MONO's frontman Takaakira 'Taka' Goto to start a new solo project entitled, Behind the Shadow Drops.
Recently, Behind the Shadow Drops has provided music to PIERRE HERMÉ x NICOLAS BUFFE "A Story of the Kingdoms of the Moon and of the Sun"; a collaborative project between Paris-based modern artist Nicolas Buffe and one of France's highest class pâtisserie brands Pierre Hermé.
This interactive website project is a grand story, portrayed by Buffe's original precise artwork, interweaving with fantasy-like dark musical music written by Behind the Shadow Drops. The story is to be enjoyed by experiencing the interactive world, which is also to develop as time passes.
This original music by Behind the Shadow Drops is scheduled to be released next year worldwide.

Recently, MONO was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of Nui Blanche Kyoto, "Modern art's bridge between Paris and Kyoto", and this is now official. This performance will be a collaboration between MONO and Paris-based modern artist, Nicolas Buffe. With Buffe's original visuals, the performance will be brought to you with projections in the outdoor space of Kyoto Seika University. This exclusive show will be 20 minutes long. Come see the band's first collaborative live performance with art, in cooperation with the city Paris, on Oct 1 (Sat).

We’re happy to announce that after 8 years, we will be once again recording our new album with Steve Albini at his studio Electrical Audio in Chicago this March! Album release is set for Autumn 2016. We believe this will be our most powerful yet beautiful album. Please look forward to it!
Also after the recording, we will be doing a special double headliner tour with Shellac in Chicago, Iowa and Minneapolis. All of us in MONO are very excited about this since we will be performing mainly based on our new songs. It’d be great if we get to share this excitement with everyone then. Aug 26, 2015 SHELLAC / MONO Japan Tour 2015 Introduction
Shellac will be visiting Japan. As one of their fans, it’s a dream come true.
MONO has so far created 3 albums “Walking Cloud”, “You Are There” and “Hymn To The Immortal Wind” with Steve Albini.
We have also gotten the bassist Bob to master our albums several times, and since Shellac started curating ATP, we have also played together at several Festivals overseas.
It has apparently been 22 years since their last Japan tour. The first time we met and introduced ourselves to Steve was 12 years ago, which was at his studio in Chicago called Electrical Audio when we did our recordings. I said to him then “There are a lot of Shellac fans in Japan, so we’re waiting for the opportunity for you guys to play a show there. So if there is anything I can do for you, let me know”.
Steve is no doubt an amazing engineer and Shellac is one of the bands we respect the most in the world, because of the bases of their existence, which is DIY (Do It Yourself) and that is also one of our most important “rules” for MONO. Not only is he our admiration, but we can also say that he is our teacher.
This Spring, we received an email from Steve suddenly.
“Taka, do you remember what you said to me 12 years ago? Can we do a tour with MONO in Japan?”
We’re really looking forward to playing together with those cool, humorous geniuses.

By director Sion Sono's request, MONO will be taking care of the soundtracks for his new movie "Real Onigokko" (Real Tag). The movie is having its premiere on the 11th of July, 2015, Saturday in Japan exclusively.
From this European tour, we will be selling some incense as our new merchandise.
We had the honour to collaborate with an old Japanese incense company called Kikuya Seishindo. Thanks to their kindness, everything was created really unique just for MONO. There will be nothing in the world that will smell like these.

This autumn, the alpinist Nobukazu Kuriki, who we/MONO have been providing music for, has decided to climb Mt. Everest alone. In order to broadcast every step of the journey online, crowdfunding for this project has started strictly limited in Japan.
The trailer for this project is available now, featuring two of our songs “Where We Begin” and “Ashes in the Snow”. The trailer also features some animation by Koji Morimoto, who created the 15 second teaser for “Recoil, Ignite” last September. Check out the video below.

Japanese composer Takaakira 'Taka' Goto, who's also known as the composer and frontman of the Instrumental Rock band MONO announces his debut album today. Nov 14, 2014 "Where We Begin" Short Dance Film Kickstarter
The music video's footage comes from an upcoming collaborative dance short film called "Where We Begin", directed by an award winning filmmaker Mitsuyo Miyazaki. The film is narrative, but with dance movements with music by MONO.
This is our big collaboration project and the film is getting really close to be finished! But they're needing some help. They're looking for additional funds to finalise the editing, colouring, audio, visual effects and more! If you like what you saw, please check out their kickstarter page and help them out!

The new music video "Where We Begin", a track taken from one of the new records "The Last Dawn" is a collaboration piece with an award-winning film producer Mitsuyo Miyazaki. The final piece will turn into a dance short film entitled "Where We Begin", where the story will be told through a narrative style, but with dance movements with music by MONO.
This music video will not only give you the snippets of what the short film will be like, but also give you a special emotional journey with the new song "Where We Begin". Please check it out!

When we started in 1999, we set out with a simple mission: from bliss to bludgeon, no matter how long or winding the path may be. After “For my parents”, we had finally reached the logical conclusion of that era, it was time to remember where we started and re-think where we were heading!
Less strings? Louder? Quieter? Lighter? Darker? Yes. “The Last Dawn” and “Rays of Darkness” are a pair of new albums. Recorded simultaneously yet conceptually, and creatively disparate, the two act as both opposing and complementary sides to a story. No strangers to narratives, the twin albums explore familiar themes: hope and hopelessness, love and loss, immense joy and unspeakable pain. Those elemental parts of life, and the complicated relationships that we create have, never been more resonant through our music.

Dec 17, 2013 "Kanata" One Night Only Special Tokyo Show
The TV show Kanata No Ko, which is currently being broadcast on the Japanese TV channel WOWOW, showcases MONO’s new sounds, moving people’s feelings with their dynamic sounds and emotional melodies. To celebrate the success, MONO will be performing a one-night-only special performance in Tokyo, performing the theme song “Kanata” and other music.
This will be the first time for MONO to play the song live in Japan, and will be the first show in Tokyo since back in February, 2013. Not only will this be a Japanese premiere for “Kanata”, but the band will be performing their old songs from “For My Parents” and more. This will be a very special event, make sure to come and check out their new improved performance from the recent US and European tours!
“Kanata” is currently available on iTunes, as well as from their Bandcamp website.

We're excited to announce the release of our first single ever! Our new single "Kanata" is available now on iTunes as well as our Bandcamp site. The drama will also start on Dec 1!
MONO has been chosen to write a theme song for a Japanese drama series called "Kanatanoko" on WOWOW.
Since the offer, MONO has started writing the song and the audio engineer Fred Weaver who has dealt with "For My Parents" visited Japan to make the recording possible.
The song is called "Kanata". As well as the theme song, MONO has also written and recorded various soundtracks throughout the series.
Drama will be broadcasted on December 1st at 10:00pm, which will be spread out to total of 4 episodes.
The director Tatsushi Ohmori is famous for such series as Sayonara Keikoku and Mahoro Ekimae Tada Benriken, and the script is written by Izumu Takahashi who is known for such series as Ningen Konchuuki and Soranin.
The original story "Kanata No Ko" was written by one of the best seller authors Mitsuyo Kakuta who has won numerous awards including Naoki award.
The original literature for this drama has also received an award called Izumikyou Kabungakusyo.
